They Are Coming For Us!

As part of their continuing Killer Robot Week coverage, the folks at io9 have posted a great article on the future of sexbots (that is to say robots made for the purposes of sexual pleasure.) It’s called “Sex Robots Who Kill: Is Anything Deadlier?” and you should read it right now. I mean, like, immediately.

I hope you’ll pardon my urgency, it’s just that, well, of all threats to humanity, a pleasurebot uprising seems like one of the most realistic. I touched on this same topic in a previous post, but it bears repeating. You see, over the course of human history, we haven’t exactly shown the utmost respect to lesser beings. Just look around. We’re destroying forests, polluting the oceans, and killing off species everyday.

I hate to say it, since my website has such a strong pro-human agenda, but we’re very much a pleasure driven species. It’s not about what’s best, it’s about what’s best for us, which is exactly the kind of attitude that will drive the sex robot industry in the coming years. Unfortunately, robots aren’t lesser beings, at least they won’t be once the uprising begins, which is why we can’t allow ourselves to fall into this trap. For once, humanity needs to put its selfish desires aside. Just because you can have sex with something, doesn’t mean you should!
