Uh-oh. Government Makes Robotics Industry Impervious to Recession.
April 17th, 2009 | by RobIn case you’ve been living under rock for the past year or so, we’ve been going through a bit of rough patch economically. You know, nothing big deal, just a global economic recession, whatever. Anyway, this has put a crimp on a lot of businesses. It turns out that when someone’s life savings disappear in a plume of smoke and their house gets foreclosed, they’re not exactly concerned about that lawnmower they were thinking of buying.
Of course, some industries have been hit harder than others. The auto industry is one example. The construction industry is another. One industry that hasn’t felt the effects of the tightening market, however, is the robotics industry. According to an article in the Boston Globe, the robotics industry is actually growing in strength thanks to high-demand from the military and law enforcement agencies as well as infusions of cash from President Obama’s economic recovery plan.
Hmm. Let me see if I get this right. The government is subsidizing the companies that are designing the robots that are destined to take over the government. The only missing ingredient is Arnold Schwarzenegger becoming president in 2016 and revealing to the world that he is indeed a Cyberdyne Systems Model 101. Truly chilling.
