I liked fishing growing up. It was a fine way to relax in the summertime and just enjoy nature. Sometimes, if I were lucky, I’d be able to catch enough bluegill or perch to take home and fry up for a delicious dinner. It was truly glorious.
You know who wouldn’t appreciate fishing?
Robots.
I don’t care how much RAM you give a robot, it just won’t be able to understand the subtle joys of sitting out in the sun waiting for a tug on your line. On the other hand, maybe I’m just not thinking of the right fish.
The below video shows a robotic fish going through the motions at the London Aquarium. Developed by scientists from Essex University, the fish uses built in sensors to navigate itself through the water. It would be beautiful if weren’t so damned scary.
